Echeveria agavoides ‘Lipstick’

Echeveria agavoides ‘Lipstick’ is a striking, low-maintenance succulent that forms tight, star-shaped rosettes of thick, triangular leaves. The pale green to lime-green foliage features dramatic, bright red to deep burgundy margins that intensify significantly when exposed to bright sunlight or cooler winter temperatures. This resilient cultivar offers a sculptural element to modern landscapes, rock gardens, and container arrangements, requiring minimal upkeep while delivering year-round visual impact.

Plant Specifications & Care

  • Light Requirements: Full sun to bright, direct light. Requires high light intensity to maintain the vivid red leaf coloration.
  • Water Requirements: Low. Use the “soak and dry” method—water thoroughly only when the potting medium is completely dry. Highly susceptible to root rot if overwatered.
  • Soil Requirements: Exceptionally well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix. Prefers sandy, gritty, or rocky soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate. Forms offshoots (“pups”) around the base over time.
  • Full Grown Size: 15 to 20 cm in height; 20 to 30 cm rosette diameter.
  • Fruiting & Pollination: Non-fruiting ornamental. Produces small, pink-to-red bell-shaped flowers on slender stalks in late spring. Self-fertile.
  • Common Uses: Perfect for rockeries, xeriscaping, succulent bowls, modern indoor planters (near bright windows), and low-bordered garden pathways.
